One of the most idyllic locations for a 16mm scale layout!

Completed in 2022, the Woody Bay Garden Railway is a 16mm:1ft scale, 32mm gauged, layout installed by the Two Moors and Central Somerset Groups of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers. It is offered as a facility for running to all Association members. As a popular feature of interest at Woody Bay station in North Devon, it also amuses young and old on occasions when meetings are held. Sundays are running days, but dependent upon weather conditions. Please check the 'OPEN/CLOSED' sign on the morning of intended operation to avoid disappointment. Activities are normally from about 10.30am, until about 3pm. Our operating season is from April to September, with extra runs during L&BR Santa Specials. Prior arrangement with our Co-ordinator is a requirement to run on one of our open days. Please see the 'EVENTS' page for details.

At 32 feet by 11 feet the layout is not massive, and so caters for smaller numbers of operators. This allows flexibility without running time slots. A small donation for use would be gratefully requested to assist costs of maintenance. Refreshments are available at the new tearoom. Ample parking.

Being adjacent to the engine shed and yard, the coaling and watering of engines is a familiar scene. The L&BR is known to narrow gauge enthusiasts as being the UK's final heritage reconstruction challenge. Our two Groups shown above are therefore pleased to support this worthy cause.

Come and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of 'Woody Gate' if either based locally or on holiday in this beautiful corner of the UK. L&BR Volunteers are naturally invited to join in when free of other tasks. We are also always seeking new keen volunteers to help run the layout.

Our thanks go to everyone who has helped towards the development of the layout through track and model donations - the charming Woody Bay station model building was among the trinkets kindly donated, and our member Roger Gardner has completed the kit to great effect.

Various coaches and wagons have also been donated since completion and, again, thank you to those who have been so helpful.

Two L&BR wagons; open bogie types which used to run at the Parracombe Garden Railway, are among the gifts, but we had misplaced the donor's name. This has now come to light as being Richard Lingard. Thank you for your thoughtfulness Richard. Our thanks for donated items are always extended with much appreciation... as long as we know who to thank for their generosity!

Pick-a-pin!

If you're visiting Woody Gate this year here's a great way for both kids and the not so young to help us maintain the layout and acquire necessary facilities - a workshed has been our most recent requirement.

A donation of £1 helps towards the costs, and you get to choose a badge for your child (or yourself).

If you don't need a badge for your £1, that's even better...more cash for the cause.

Your kids can choose from a range of designs shown here, as available.

They can be had at the layout on running days, but are not available at the gift shop.

Become a Woody Gate Badge'r and collect the sett🤣!

Can you spot 'Badgy Bert' at Woody Gate? When a kind donor passes on the badge offer Bert the badger takes it off to somewhere on the layout (but not when you're looking!)

Spot him and the badge is yours! The only catch is that we won't say if he's there or not🤔
