A Darjeeling & Himalayan visitor at Woody Gate.

The 'Woody Gate Garden Railway' 16mm group has been officially recognised by the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers for a few months now. We are small in number at the moment but hope that more members will choose to join us. It costs nothing, and the support given is appreciated by hundreds of visitors who pass through the L&BR's charmingly presented

Woody Bay station during each season of working.

The 16mm hobby is one of social standing. It brings together fans of the narrow gauge through the chunky image of much larger locos and stock than '00', or even '0' gauge. It's large enough to be easy on the eye, tangibly practical and great fun to power up with fire in a loco's 'belly', or even with just a simple flick of a switch. Battery power can be a less costly entry level.

We are dedicated volunteers who share a passion for model railways, aim to preserve and promote the rich heritage of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, but most importantly enjoy running model trains at this iconic location. Of various backgrounds and experiences we work together to maintain and operate the railway layout. It's not a job. It's our hobby. We always welcome new faces to help run the layout at selected weekends. This means you, if you're as keen as we are. However we all have other lives of course and need cover when necessary.

Becoming a WBGR Volunteer is easy. Your contribution of time can be as frequent as you wish, but reasonably regular support is vital, or the idea of volunteering is not really of help. You don't need to initially own any 16mm equipment, although to do so would be a more practical approach. We have smaller battery units for use which are part of the overall operation. Entry level locos, or low cost battery powered kit models are the best way to start. Helping L&BR's ambitions to extend the line further is the goal. Why not take a shot at it?
