Some 'how it's dones'

People often ask how we have produced the trees for the Woody Bay layout.

We hope this video provides enough guidance.

The finished items are not 100% perfect

for permanent outdoor use, although we do have one being tested for longevity while the wildness of Exmoor's climate throws everything possible at it. It's still intact after a few months but hasn't yet sampled Winter's extremes.

The Two Moors Group website has been discontinued and will be replaced soon with a new version.

Most of the buildings on the Woody Gate layout are examples of the JigStones self cast module method, either donated former 'properties' of Pete Chandler's garden railway or new builds by him.

The station building is a

Garden Railway

Specialists kit, but we

think is of G scale.

The height of the

model'scanopy was a

little lowfor 1:19 scale

folk so an extra walling

depth has needed to be

added.

The layout took about six months to install.

We commenced groundwork in February 2022, and the first test run wasn't until the end of July.

It wasn't an easy job to begin with as the grassy slope it was built on secretly concealed a whole lot of waste rubble, hampering placement of concrete footings.

Working one day each week we managed to maintain a steady headway,

The Final Push!

With the main timber structure now in place it was time to top it off with a material generously donated to the project by the EVM bespoke exhibition and design engineers of Glasgow. 'Dibond' is rot proof, rust proof and saves a lot of maintenance problems for years to come. It's just 3mm thick but as tough as anything. This was then covered with heavy duty roofing felt.

The 'to be continued' comment at the end emphasises the layout's purpose...

that of putting it to good use as a communal facility for 16mm enthusiasts to visit and enjoy. This has not, as yet, materialised as much as we had hoped, and are always keen to see and welcome new faces.

Please contact our Co-ordinator Pete Chandler if you want to join us one day.

But please be aware that our running season at Woody Bay begins in April and ends in September. For other 'Two Moors' or 'Central Somerset' steam-ups throughout the year please contact either Pat Brewer (TM) or Laurence Poole (CS) for further information.
